  • It is commonly grown in gardens for its showy purple flowers. All spikes of purple flowers appear on July and August.
  • Liatris spicata, the dense blazing star or prairie gay feather, is an herbaceous perennial plant native throughout most of eastern North America.

Availability

All spikes of purple, white, or pink flowers appear in July and August naturally, but commercially available year around.Commercialy grown cut flower variety is Callilepsis.

Grades

Bloom spike should be at least 1/3 the length of the stem. Graded by stem length and bunched by 10.

Quality

Foliage must be dark green and free of blackening. Should be purchased with blooms showing good colour but with no more than 20 % open blooms.
